daily draw 1

Feb 2, 2017
1 min read

I created this blog around 3 months ago. I told myself I'd post stuff I was working on "just so I can document my progress for myself because no one else is going to see this". Clearly that plan hasn't worked. Over the last month I have been following Disney character designer Dylan Ekren's "Camuary" (see his work here: http://sketchlab.net/archive) drawing-a-day exercise. Apart from being inspiring with his drawings themselves, he makes a few important points about this exercise (paraphrased, from his blog):

1. Accountability is a great motivator.

2. It challenges your time management and discipline practices.

3. Limiting work to an hour or two helps you plan better and live with imperfect work.

Already, I see the flaws in my thought process - I'm not the right audience for accountability, hence why would I be disciplined, and what if someone else does see my crappy work? So I picked the shortest month of the year and decided to venture out on a daily drawing exercise of my own.

If the likes of Dylan feel the need to draw daily, who am I to not?

I'd like to focus on character design/concepts, just to see if I get any good at it, but who knows what my brain will spit out. Here's a character sketch from a while ago to fill in for the missed day this month.
